Sad and disappointing news. At yesterday’s meeting there were only three students and two faculty. Not enough people to help plan the launch party, which is Tuesday March 9th 4-6 pm.
In order for this party to happen, students are needed to step up and volunteer. This is your club and your party, not faculty. As a club you wanted to start doing events but in order to do so, you need to help plan these events.
An emergency meeting has been called for next Thursday (March 4) at 5-6 pm in the photo studio. Walker and I will not be there as we are going to be at SPE. However Walker will try to video conference.
I am looking for a volunteer to run the meeting. I have an agenda and sign up sheet for the party. Let me know if you are available and I’ll get the agenda to you.
If not enough students come to this next meeting, the launch party will be postponed until next quarter.

During the E.A.S.T. Austin Studio Tour earlier this academic year, I came across the work of Mark Johnson, which I liked quite a bit. He’s a multimedia artist, and largely incorporates sculpture and humor into his work. I signed up for his mailing list, and it turns out he has an opening at Pump Projects tomorrow, Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 7-10 pm. At 8 pm there will be a performance of Typewriter Chorus by Michael Merck.
If anyone is interested in meeting up, either email me soon or leave a comment on this post. We’ll go grab dinner afterwards.
Here’s the info for the show/location:

UPDATE: This event has been canceled.
Just received an email about this lecture at the Harry Ransom Center on the University of Texas at Austin campus at 7pm on February 25, 2010:
The University Co-op presents a Harry Ransom Lectures event with Sarah Greenough, Senior Curator of Photographs at the National Gallery of Art. She presents the lecture “Transforming Destiny into Awareness: Robert Frank’s The Americans, 1959.”
Sarah Greenough was the founding curator of the National Gallery of Art’s department of photographs in 1990. Since that time she has organized numerous exhibitions at the National Gallery that have traveled to museums around the world.
The 25th is a Thursday, and I teach until 5pm that night. We are supposed to have a meeting that same evening from 5-6pm. Would anyone be interested in driving down after the meeting? Feel free to leave feedback in the comments or email me.

The next Shudder Budder meeting will be this Thursday, February 25 from 5-6pm in the photo studio. From Jen:
We’ll be finalizing our plans for our website launch party by selecting a new logo, food and drinks.
In addition, the last 10-15 minutes of the meeting will be dedicated to critiquing photos. So if you have some photos that you would like us to look at, please come.
Keep you eyes out for a poster and info about Shudder Budder’s launch party.

Two big events happening this Friday, February 19, 2010:
People’s Gallery Opening — Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second St., Austin, TX 78701
This event will run from 5:30-7:30pm. However, we will meet at the AI-Austin parking lot at 6pm to caravan to downtown Austin. This will be our first outing of the quarter, so let’s try to muster a good turnout. Parking is free/validated.
4th Annual Misprint Beard and Moustache Competition — the Mohawk, 912 Red River, Austin, Texas
I haven’t decided if I’m going to this, as there’s a $5/$7 cover at the door, but it may be a good prep for Mustache March, which I’ll post more about soon!

I have just created accounts for a number of students who attended the second meeting of ShudderBudder today. Those of you who are interested in being able to post to this blog need to find me (Walker), Jen, Leigh or Meg and give us your full name, preferred username (most people are simply using their first name), and email address.
If you have any questions about how to use WordPress (the blogging system we use on ShudderBudder) or even what’s appropriate to post, please leave a comment on this post and I’ll do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.
