Club Outing Opportunity!

by Sarah Peterson on April 28th, 2010 | 4 comments

Hello all! Just wanted to let everyone know that a group of us are going to be meeting up at the school around 1:30pm to go west to Bertram, Texas this Saturday (5/1). This small town is a little slice of Americana and gives you plenty of opportunities to brush up on those photo skills. If you’re into very old and rustic Texas buildings then this will be the trip for you. Our goal is to get out there around 2:30pm and stick around for a good four or five hours. We’ll plan on carpooling if people wanted to save on gas, but it’s bound to be a lot of fun. I know that there were some expressed interests from some people about how we should go on some photo outings and I thought I would take it upon myself to get it started. So far I know that Walker will be joining me. How about you come too?

For more info on the city visit: http://www.bertramtx.com/ and comment if you plan on attending. Remember we’ll be leaving the student parking lot around 1:30pm!

New Design

by Walker Pickering on April 28th, 2010 | 0 comments

Shudder Budderers: You should notice we’ve deployed a new design incorporating the use of (one of) our logo(s). It’s a spare design, but it will allow the content of your posts to take center stage, including photos and videos.

Also note that we are now listing the authors on this here blog on the right-hand side. Your name becomes an active link once you’ve posted something to the site, and the link goes directly to your author page. That page features a link to your web site (if you entered on in your profile), a photo of you and information about you. All of this information can be updated by changing it once you’ve logged in to WordPress.

Description:

On Saturday, April 17, 2010, Meg Mulloy and I took a group of 9 students down to San Marcos, TX for the reception and lecture associated with two exhibitions: ¡Viva México!: Celebrating the country in photographs; and Vaquero: Genesis of the Texas Cowboy, photographs by Bill Wittliff.

The lecture was given by Connie Todd, recently retired Curator of The Wittliff Collection of Southwestern & Mexican Photography. The exhibition took advantage of the newly remodeled and expanded Wittliff Collection space, which appears to have roughly doubled its area on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library at Texas State University—San Marcos.

Students from Shudder Budder—the student photography group at The Art Institute of Austin—interviewed one another in their first trip to The Wittliff Collection.

Wittliff Collection Opening: ¡Viva México!

by Walker Pickering on April 12th, 2010 | 0 comments

This Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 7:00pm – 9:30pm there will be an opening at the Wittliff Collection of Southwestern & Mexican Photography on the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos. The collection will be featuring a show called ¡Viva México!, as well as Vaquero: Genesis of the Texas Cowboy by my friend Bill Wittliff.

I printed for Bill (founder of the collection) a few years ago, and he is fascinating guy to know. I would like a group of students and faculty to join me in traveling down to San Marcos for this opening; I’d like to get a chance to introduce you all to Bill, assuming he’ll be in attendance. There will be a talk by recently retired Wittliff Collections curator/director Connie Todd as well. It should be a fun evening.

If you are planning to attend, please RSVP: thewittliffcollections@txstate.edu OR 512-245-2313

Directions: thewittliffcollections.txstate.edu

Let’s meet at the AIA student parking lot at 6:15pm and caravan/carpool down to San Marcos. Dinner afterwards.
