This Friday: San Antonio Trip (UPDATED)

We will meet at 5pm this Friday, September 3, 2010 in the student parking lot at the Ai-Austin campus to trek down to San Antonio for their monthly First Friday Art Walk. However, this particular Friday is of special significance, as September is known as FotoSeptiembre in San Antonio. It is their official month of photography.

Though this might not be our only trip to San Antonio this month, it’s bound to be a great one. If you can’t meet at the school, get in touch with Jen or Walker (or another student planning on traveling with the group) and we can plan out a meeting place along the way—likely South of Austin.

UPDATE: We will try to swing by Cabela’s in Buda around 6pm to meet any of you that live South. Be positioned near the entrance to the building so we can pick you up (if you need a ride) and go. Don’t be late.

Shudder Budder Meeting Tuesday 5pm

There will be a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) 5-6 pm in the Photo Studio. Topics we’ll be discussing is going to the First Friday and FotoSeptiembre in San Antonio this Friday! We’re going to be meeting at school and car pooling there.

We also need to set up a make up date for the Digital Negative Workshop.

Collaborative Opportunity

I just received an email from one of my video students, Justin Gallegos, in regards to a possible collaborative opportunity between the film club at AI-Austin and members of ShudderBudder. Here’s his email:

The film club is currently shooting and producing AI’s first webshow: The Studio Room. I would like to market the upcoming show with posters of the cast and was hoping that maybe The Shudder Budder wouldn’t mind taking our photos for the posters and photos for various scenes in the show. I thought that this would be a great way that two clubs can work on something together. Shudder Budder will get credit for all of the photos used in the show and for the posters.

Digital Negative Workshop on Hold

The Digital Negative Workshop originally planned for this Saturday, August 28, 2010 has been postponed due to events happening at the school that day. We will reschedule and announce the new date and time when we figure it out. We’re looking at roughly two weeks later at this point, but there are no guarantees yet.

Instead of the regular meeting, stop by and have your photo taken.

I was just reminded that tonight in San Antonio is the monthly First Friday Art Walk. It’s usually pretty cool, and you should come. We’re meeting at the school (student lobby or parking lot) at 5pm to carpool down there. We’ll take Toll-130 to get around Austin so we don’t have to sit in traffic.

You should ignore your urge to be lazy and do nothing, or do something stupid, and instead join us. Forget excuses! Fun will be had by all. Do it.

Pass this on to anyone else who might be interested. It’s open to all, even non-AI or non-photo people.

Photogram Workshop This Weekend

This Saturday, July 31st, 2010, from 11am to 3pm, we will be holding a special workshop at the school for currently enrolled students. You must bring $10 to participate. We will provide materials for creating cyanotypes. You must bring your own objects to create the photograms.

We will take a lunch break from noon to 1pm, so bring extra money.

First Meeting for the Summer Quarter

Hey folks! Looks like the photographer that Leigh was talking about at the meeting is coming to speak next Thursday, June 3rd, at the AMOA.

Running the Numbers exhibition artist Chris Jordan talks about the inspiration for and impact of his epic photographs about sustainability. Chris Jordan takes statistics that are too big for the mind to grasp and makes them shockingly beautiful for the eye to behold: 380,000 kilowatt hours of electricity wasted every minute…2 million plastic bottles used every five minutes. By fusing image and information into epic photographs, he asks us to consider our responsibility in American consumption.

The Austin Center for Photography is hosting Abelardo Morell for their Icons of Photography No. 6 lecture series. The event will be a lecture and booking signing May 28 at 7 pm. Club Outing Opportunity!

Hello all! Just wanted to let everyone know that a group of us are going to be meeting up at the school around 1:30pm to go west to Bertram, Texas this Saturday (5/1). This small town is a little slice of Americana and gives you plenty of opportunities to brush up on those photo skills. If you’re into very old and rustic Texas buildings then this will be the trip for you. Our goal is to get out there around 2:30pm and stick around for a good four or five hours. We’ll plan on carpooling if people wanted to save on gas, but it’s bound to be a lot of fun. I know that there were some expressed interests from some people about how we should go on some photo outings and I thought I would take it upon myself to get it started. So far I know that Walker will be joining me. How about you come too?

Hi All!

There is a cool photo show, Explore Creativity in Digital Space this Thursday from 5:30-7:30 pm. It is in the ACES building on UTs campus. Several photographers will be showing their work in the awesome Visualization Lab with the highest resolution tiled display in the world! Tre Ratcliff who came to the school to talk about his super cool HDR photos will be there as will Lawrence McFarland who received a Guggenheim fellowship for his photography this year.

We will leave from the school this Thurs at 5:00pm to caravan down to UT. Click here to RSVP
